Stewardship Moment: “Do you think I have come to give you peace on Earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.” Luke 12:51 Many of us like to play it safe, not cause waves with our family and friends, especially when it comes to politics and religion. We don’t want to cause any turmoil. However, many times this is at the expense of the truth. The truth being Jesus Christ. Too many people are misguided because they rely on their own limited human ability to reason and are not allowing faith in God to guide them. Form your conscience; take a stance for life, marriage, and religious liberty.

Altar Society Meeting Sunday, August 24th at 9:45am St. Elizabeth Parish Center
Agenda: Fall Bazaar

FFF (FAMILY, FAITH, FORMATION) Registration will be Sun., Aug. 17th and 24th before and after Mass at Sacred Heart. Sykeston students are paid for.

Man of the Shroud Traveling Exhibit at St. Mary’s Cathedral August 23-31. For the first time in the Diocese of Fargo, we will have an exact replica of the burial cloth of Christ, known as the Shroud of Turin, along with an exhibit of the fascinating details and history of this most precious holy cloth. The Shroud of Turin is a linen cloth that bears a faint image of the front and back of a man who died of crucifixion wounds. It has been venerated for centuries as the actual burial shroud used to wrap the body of Jesus in after his crucifixion, and upon which Jesus's bodily image is miraculously imprinted. There have been countess studies through the ages that cannot explain the image by human knowledge. The exhibit, Man of the Shroud, will be at St. Mary’s Cathedral in the social hall for one week, August 23-31. Check the Diocese website for daily open hours of the exhibit.
https://www.fargodiocese.org/shroud-exhibit ***The Special Presentation on the Shroud of Turin by expert, Jim Bertrand, will be on Sunday, Aug 24 and then repeated again on Monday, Aug 25 both starting at 7pm in the church. The presentation on Monday, Aug 25 will be live streamed through the Diocese of Fargo Youtube channel  https://www.youtube.com/@dioceseoffargo4555

No Bulletin August 24th.

Heavenly Wisdom by Venerable Fulton Sheen:
“Very harmful effects can follow accepting the philosophy which denies personal guilt or sin and thereby makes everyone nice. By denying sin, the nice people make a cure impossible. Sin is most serious, and the tragedy is deepened by the denial that we are sinners…The really unforgiveable sin is the denial of sin, because, by its nature, there is now nothing to be forgiven. By refusing to admit to personal guilt, the nice people are made into scandalmongers, gossips, talebearers, and supercritics, for they must project their real if unrecognized guilt to others. This, again, gives them a new illusion of goodness: the increase of faultfinding is in direct ratio and proportion to the denial of sin.”

Holy Father’s Prayer Intention for August: Let us pray that societies where coexistence seems more difficult might not succumb to the temptation of confrontation for ethnic, political, religious, or ideological reasons.

Stewardship Moment: “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” Luke 12:34 Jesus encourages us to build up our treasure in heaven. The world encourages us to build up our treasure in real estate, investments, and material goods. How much time are you investing in building up a worldly treasure? How much time are you investing in building up a heavenly treasure? To invest more in the things of heaven, you must let go of some of the things of this world.

I will be on vacation from Mon., Aug. 4th through Tues., Aug. 12th. Weekday Masses, confession and adoration are cancelled during this time. Please pray that I have a safe journey and I will be remembering you in all of my Masses. Please welcome Fr. William Slattery, the chaplain for Shanley High School, who will be celebrating Mass this weekend while I am on vacation. Thank you! ~ Fr. Leier

There will be an Altar Society meeting on Sunday, August 24th at 9:45am in the St. Elizabeth Parish Center. Agenda will be the Fall Bazaar.

Assumption Of Mary Into Heaven is a Holy Day of Obligation. This feast has a double objective: (1) the happy departure of Mary from this life; (2) the assumption of her body into heaven. It is the principal feast of the Blessed Virgin. Mass at 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 14th at Sykeston; Mass at 5:30 pm on Friday, August 15th at Carrington.

Holy Father’s Prayer Intention for August: Let us pray that societies where coexistence seems more difficult might not succumb to the temptation of confrontation for ethnic, political, religious, or ideological reasons.

Heavenly Wisdom by Venerable Fulton Sheen: “We shrink therefore from God, knowing that He wants to enrich our being, rather than our having-that He wishes to elevate our nature, not to submerge and lose it in trifles. He has called us to the superior vocation of being His children, of partaking of His nature, and of being related to Him as branches to a vine. Few of us completely want that elevation; it is our petty desire to have more, not to share the glory of being more. We want the poor shadows, not the light-the sparks, & not the sun-the arc, & not the circle.”

Stewardship Moment: “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” Luke 12:15 The Gospel message is contrary to modern culture that continually tries to convince us that our joy comes from the material things we possess. That the more we acquire, the happier we will be. Jesus shows us that our true joy comes from our “invisible” gifts like love, mercy, and forgiveness. True joy comes from “emptying” ourselves, giving of ourselves rather than always taking. We are called not to hoard but to share. True joy comes from living a grateful and generous lifestyle; become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered.”

Heavenly Wisdom by Venerable Fulton Sheen: “Modern prophets say that our economics have failed us. No! It is not our economics which have failed; it is man who has failed-man who has forgotten God. Hence no manner of economic or political readjustment can possibly save our civilization; we can be saved only by a renovation of the inner man, only by a purging of our hearts and souls; for only by seeking first the Kingdom of God and His Justice will all these other things be added unto us.”

Holy Father’s Prayer Intention for August: Let us pray that societies where coexistence seems more difficult might not succumb to the temptation of confrontation for ethnic, political, religious, or ideological reasons.
